Security force launch operations to rein in violent crimes in Mogadishu’s Hamarweyne

Somali security forces are conducting a massive operation to tackle violent crime in the wake of rising cases of robbing the civilians in Mogadishu’s Hamar weyne and its environs.

Hamarweyne deputy district commissioner, Mohamud Ali Hassan  has ordered elite forces to hunt the robbers and ensure they are prosecuted in court.

“Certainly we shall get to the bottom of these cases. We have a responsibility which we shall discharge to the satisfaction of the citizens,” said Hassan.

Police stations in the district have been directed to take charge of the combined teams pursuing the gangs.

Police officers  in the district where the incidents took place have been ordered to come up with long term plans to prevent more robs.

“They have received directives to ensure elaborate plans are in place. Such gangs should be detected before they strike. The probability of transporting firearms should also be reduced,” highlighted Hassan.

In carrying out the operations, he urged the public to cooperate with the police.

“Wherever you are police requires your assistance. Please give the much-needed assistance. We have a shared responsibility to ensure these criminals are apprehended and locked up,” said the deputy DC.

Last week, two suspects are being held in connection with the robbings, said Mr Hassan.
