Security forces operation to remove roadblocks is underway in Beledweyn town
Beledeweyn security forces have today conducted their second-day operation aimed at easing transport and reducing illegal check-points which collect money from vehicles using the various routes in the region.
The Security Forces were working together closely with the locals on day-to-day checkpoint operations to allow people to move freely throughout the area without being interfered by the armed groups.
The troops are monitoring to areas outside of Beledweyn town as well as in areas under the illegal check-points controls.
The commander of the security forces said: “the operation to remove the illegal check-points started yesterday and will continue until the checkpoints are clear.”
“Security officials in Beledweyn town have returned to monitor areas, where the security forces have yesterday removed the armed groups.” said the commander.
It was yesterday when the security forces in Beledweyn town have started operations in civilian and public transport as they were going to continue operations until the checkpoints are clear in the area.
Motorists who use the roads have severally complained from theft by militias who man those illegal roadblocks.
There have been attacks on public transport and army installations in most of this part of the region and the forces have been trying to address.
