Security operation in Wadajir district nets over ten Al-Shabaab suspects
At least ten men suspected to be members of Somalia’s militant group, Al-Shabaab, have been arrested in Wadajir district on Tuesday night.
Somali security officers rounded up the suspects during an impromptu operation in the district and its neighbourhood.
“They are being interrogated before we know the way forward. Some of them are teachers,” said a security officer who asked not to be named.
“Al-Shabaab has stepped up their attacks in Somalia and we are not taking any chances,” said Wadajir district commissioner, Ahmed Abdulle Afrah.
He said the Al-Shabaab suspects netted in the sweep have been taken into police custody, where they are currently being questioned over their links to Al-Shabaab.
Somali government has been carrying out security operations to flush out Al-Shabaab member following series of attacks that rocked Mogadishu for last two Months, which claimed lives of over thirty people.
Somali government forces backed by African Union peace-Keeping forces has pushed Al-Shabab fighters many towns including Mogadishu.
