Security stepped up in Jowhar as Hirshabelle MPs are to be sworn
The security has been reinforced in and around Jowhar town ahead of the sworn ceremony of Hirshabelle MPs who were selected yesterday.
High delegation led by Somali parliament speaker, Mohamed Osman Jawaari is expected to visit the town in the forthcoming hours.
Jawaari is expected to take part in the swearing-in event of new state parliamentarians for Hir-Shabelle state.
Hundreds of Security forces secured the streets of Jowhar town to protect the participants of the meeting and as well as whole town.
Residents in Jowhar, 90 kilometers north-west of Mogadishu have been asked to work with security forces to thwart any possible attack by Al shabaab militants against the conference.
Al-Shabaab group, which wants to topple the Western-backed government in Mogadishu, has carried out a suicide car bomb in Adado town where more than 400 delegates were meeting for the State Formation Conference.
An AMISOM and Somali army offensive some years ago pushed al Shabaab out of major strongholds, but the group still controls some rural areas.
