Senate Approves Agricultural Services Regulatory and Inspection Agency Bill
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Federal government of Somalia’s upper house Tuesday approved the approved the Agricultural Services Regulatory and Inspection Agency Bill by a majority vote.
The legislation also encompasses the Law on the Control of Agricultural Chemicals, aiming to ensure the safe use and management of agricultural inputs.
Agriculture and Irrigation minister Mohamed Abdi Hayir Maareye said the bill is crucial in enhancing the regulation and inspection of agricultural services across the country, ensuring better quality and safety standards for the sector.
“This approval marks a critical step towards improving our agricultural sector. The new regulations will help protect our farmers, consumers, and the environment from the risks associated with the improper use of agricultural chemicals,” the minister said.
The bill’s approval will pave the way for the establishment of the Agricultural Services Regulatory and Inspection Agency, which will oversee the implementation of the new regulations.
This agency will be responsible for conducting inspections, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and providing guidance to farmers on best practices for the use of agricultural chemicals.
