The Senate has dispatched 48 Senators to all the five federal member states in the country on a fact finding mission amid a fall-out between the states and the federal government.

A statement from Speaker Abdi Hashi’s office said the senators are tasked with engaging with the federal state leaders to discuss the current political disputes in the country. The Senators will also meet the state legislators, and other stakeholder such as women, youth and civil society groups.

The Senators will also assess the political, security and social issues within the states and file a report to be tabled in the senate.

The move by the senate to send delegations to the region follows ensuing disputes which has seen a bitter fall-out with Mogadishu amid a barrage of accusations against president Farmaajo’s administration.

In the latest tussle, the federal member states said would give the upcoming National Security Council a wide berth unless a third party intervenes. The federal government, the states said could not be trusted to implement agreements arrived at during meetings.

The Senate last week called on the two levels of government to ease confrontations and further rhetoric which could escalate the situation.

Puntland, South West an Jubbaland will host the highest number of Senators at 10 while each of the remaining states-Galmudug and HirShabelle will receive 9 senators.
