GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Upper House has signed a cooperation pact with the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP), securing full membership in the international body as part of efforts to boost the country’s role in global peacebuilding.
Speaker of the Upper House Abdi Hashi Abdullahi hosted a delegation led by GCTP President Ahmed bin Mohamed Al-Jarwan in Mogadishu, where the two sides discussed the role of parliaments in advancing tolerance, dialogue and stability.
Hashi, joined by Second Deputy Speaker Abdullahi Ali Hersi Timacadde, said Somalia’s experience in reconciliation and state-building positions its legislature to contribute meaningfully to international conversations on conflict resolution.
Al-Jarwan welcomed Somalia’s participation, saying the Council values the country’s perspective as it expands its global parliamentary network spanning more than 100 nations.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding granting Somalia’s Upper House full membership in the GCTP, a move expected to strengthen Somalia’s diplomatic reach and deepen its engagement in global efforts promoting coexistence and peaceful dialogue.
