Senate to pass Immigration, Natural Resources Management Bills

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The Upper House is today expected to pass two crucial bills that have been debated by the Federal Parliament’s two chambers.

The 54-member chamber will be endorsing the Immigration bill and the Natural Resources Management Bill. The Immigration Bill is aimed at among others regulating immigration procedures such as the issuance of passports, visas, and movement of persons from and into Somalia.

The Bill also anchors into law the Immigration Agency which will be responsible for managing immigration issues. On the other hand, the Natural Resources Management Bill provides guidelines and regulations on the exploitation and management of incomes from underground resources such as minerals.

Parliament has already passed the Petroleum Act which oversees the exploitation of petroleum resources in the country.

The Upper House (also refers to as the Senate) will also be debating the Investment Protection Bill and the National Identity Bill both of which come up for second reading.
