Senior Militant Commander Surrenders to Galmudug Forces

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: A senior militant commander surrendered to Galmudug regional forces on Tuesday amid ongoing security operations in central Somalia.

The commander, identified as Abdiraahman Talxo Shuuke, turned himself in to the Galayr unit of the Galmudug Dervish forces, which provides security for the regional presidency and has recently carried out operations in the Labadulle and Ceelahelay areas of Galgaduud region.

According to security officials, Shuuke said he had led a militant unit operating in Galgaduud and surrendered after arriving from the Ceelgaras area, handing over his weapon and ammunition.

Officials said the surrendered commander told interrogators that militant fighters were increasingly dispersed following sustained pressure from Somali national forces, including air and ground operations across the country.

Somalia has intensified its campaign against Islamist militants as the government seeks to weaken their operational capacity and stabilise recovered areas.
