Several Missing After Landslide Tragedy in Central Kenya
GOOBJOOG NEWS | NAIROBI: Several people are missing following a landslide at Kimende area of Kiambu county in Central Kenya.
According to Kenya Red Cross, the landslide was caused by heavy rains that have pounded the area over the recent weeks.
“So far there were no deaths confirmed, the area has been cordoned off and declared a danger zone,” Kenya Red Cross said via its X account early Wednesday adding that rescue efforts are ongoing.
Heavy rains and floods in the East African country since late March have killed at least 289 people and displaced 285,600, latest government statistics show.
In the worst single incident, at least 61 people were killed in late April following a mudslide and flash floods in the town of Mai Mahiu in central Kenya.
