Severe water shortages in areas under Gedo threatens lives of people

Reports from Gedo region indicate that acute water shortage in many areas has caused many families and pastoral people to flee their houses.
The affected areas are Fafah-Dun, Geriley, Takar, Aws-Qurun, Darasalam and Asha-Ad.
Siraji Ali, traditional elder in Fafah-Dun locality which is 48Km from Bar-Dere town, told Goobjoog News that the situation in these areas is getting worse day after day due to acute water shortages while 200 ltr Drum of water reached $ 10 dollars adding that more people are in danger if immediate help is not delivered.
Besides the prices of the inadequate available water in Fafah-Dun and nearby areas has doubled and not affordable to most people.
Siraji underlined that the shortage of water in the district is caused by prolonged drought and the dry up of water sources, wells and dams forcing the pastoral communities to flee their homes in search of water.
