Shabelle River Floods Warning in some regions of Somalia
River Shebelle which is 1130 kilometres long, extending for 1000 km inside Ethiopia and 130 km inside Somalia.
The river flows through Middle and Lower Shabelle, Hiraan regions sometimes causes destructive flash floods
Shabelle River is filled to the brim with frenzied heavy flushing water, heavy rains that has been experienced in the upper parts and heavy downpour in the Ethiopian highlands has increased levels of the Shabelle River that could mean severe floods downstream.
Flushing water was seen some where not far away Jowhar football field caused the locals to alarm the administration who reached to oversee the situation.
Reports from several villages and towns along the river as Mahaday, Jowhar, Barey indicate that the locals in those areas are carrying out practices on flood prevention.
Last year the Shabelle River floods started in late August, in and around the Middle Shabelle town of Jowhar as mentioned in the flood warning above.
Shabelle River splashed floods to many areas under Lower Shabelle region which washed away villages and displacement of people.
