Six killed in Al-Shabab attack on military base
At least six soldiers died after Al-Shabab attacked a military base of combined forces of SNA and AMISOM in Taraako locality.
The armed confrontation broke out when heavily armed Al-Shabab fighters attacked on Monday night a military base.
Residents who spoke to Goobjoog news said that troops warded off the fighters and the attack inflicted heavy losses on both sides.
“We do not know the exact number of people in the attack but we heard six soldiers died in the attack” a local resident said.
A SNA officer spoke to the media said that four militants were killed in the fighting and while a military soldier was wounded.
Sources in Taraako told Goobjoog News that gunshots were being heard in the evening as the African Union troops and SNA continued hunting the attackers.
Despite losing most of its key strongholds in south and central Somalia, al-Shabab continues to carry out attacks on the government and African Union troops across the country.
Al-Shabab, which wants to topple the Western-backed government in Mogadishu, the group also stage frequent suicide attacks inside the capital, Mogadishu.
