Six MPs Suspended From House Sittings Following February 7 Chaos

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Six Members of Somalia’s House of the People have been suspended after disrupting a joint session of the Federal Parliament, according to a formal decision issued Second Deputy Speaker, Abdullahi Omar Abshirow.

The suspension follows chaos and obstruction during a joint sitting of the two chambers of parliament held on 7 February 2026, the statement said.

Under the ruling, the affected lawmakers are barred from attending 12 parliamentary sittings, including both joint sessions and regular sessions of the House of the People, effective 9 February 2026.

The suspended MPs are Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, Abdilatif Muse Nur (Sanyare), Abdikadir Hussein Abdi (Uurdoox), Said Dahir Ismail Ahmed Abdi Koshin and Abdishakur Ali Mire.

The decision cites Articles 4, 14, 16, and 28 of the House of the People’s Rules of Procedure, which grant the parliamentary leadership authority to maintain order and ensure the smooth conduct of parliamentary business.

The Speaker’s office also directed the House Security Command to enforce the suspension to guarantee the safety and security of other members of parliament.

The move comes amid heightened political tensions surrounding parliamentary proceedings and wider disputes within Somalia’s federal political landscape.
