SNA Backed By Allied Militia Fiercely Clash With Al-Shabaab in Masagaway, Galgadud Region

GOOBJOOG NEWS|GALGADUD: The Somali National Army, backed by allied clan militias, engaged in fierce fighting with the militant group Al-Shabaab Saturday in Masagaway area of Galgadud region.

Several sources indicate that the federal forces responded following an attack by Al-Shabaab on the town located in the eastern part of Galgadud region.

Heavy fighting was reported, but there was no immediate information about casualties. In April and May 2023, the two sides clashed in the same town leading to casualties on both sides.

At least 18 Al-Shabaab militants were killed in April of that year, and in a return strike the following month, 17 SNA soldiers were killed.

The SNA liberated Masagaway in December 2023.
