SNA Commander Visits Baidoa Frontlines, Reviews Gains Against Al-Shabaab

GOOBJOOG NEWS | BAIDOA: Somali National Army’s Land Forces commander Brig. Gen. Sahal Abdullahi Omar, has inspected frontline positions in Baidoa, as government forces continue military operations against Al-Shabaab and other armed groups in Southwest State.

Brig. Gen. Omar, who is in Baidoa on official duties, visited positions held by the Somali National Army and received an assessment of the security situation, recent fighting and the condition of troops deployed in the area.

The commander of the SNA’s 60th Division, Col. Isxaaq Adan “Isxaaq Berdaale,” briefed him on recent military operations and battles, as well as what the army described as gains against enemy forces.

The inspection also covered the security situation in Baidoa and the living conditions of soldiers stationed at the frontline.

Brig. Gen. Sahal praised the troops for their reported achievements and urged them to maintain vigilance against armed-group movements.

He also commended the soldiers for their role in protecting civilians, according to the Somali National Army.

Baidoa, the administrative capital of Southwest State, remains strategically important to Somalia’s security campaign. The city and surrounding areas have faced both insurgent threats and political tensions, making the deployment and readiness of government forces a key security concern.

The latest frontline assessment comes as Somali forces seek to maintain pressure on Al-Shabaab and strengthen their ability to conduct operations with greater responsibility for national security.

The army did not provide details of the locations inspected or give figures for casualties or territory captured during the recent operations.
