SNA Forces Clears Key Supply Route in Lower Shabelle to Boost Security
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Somali National Forces (SNA) have cleared and secured a key transport corridor in Lower Shabelle, aiming to improve civilian movement and disrupt militant activity.
Military officials said units of the Somali National Army, including the 143rd Unit of the 14th October Brigade, carried out route clearance operations between Mubaarak and Awdheegle, using heavy machinery to remove dense vegetation along the road.
The officials said the operation was designed to deny militants hiding spaces used to stage ambushes and plant roadside explosives, a tactic commonly used by Al-Shabaab in the region.
The commander of the 143rd Unit said the outcome of the operation has improved security along the route, enabling safer movement for civilians, commercial transport and humanitarian supplies.
He added that clearing the corridor would help limit militant mobility and reduce threats to both security forces and local communities.
The operation forms part of a broader effort by Somali forces to stabilise areas in Lower Shabelle, where authorities are working to secure infrastructure and maintain control of recently recovered territories.
