SNA Forces Deal Major Blow to Al-Shabaab, Kill 15 Fighters

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Somali National Army’s elite Danab special forces have killed 15 Al-Shabaab fighters in an operation in the Jilib district, a key stronghold of the militants, marking a fresh blow to the group as the federal government intensifies its war on terror.

According to the defense ministry, the raid, carried out with air mobility support, also led to the capture of eight fighters. The operation targeted active militant cells and forms part of a sustained campaign aimed at degrading Al-Shabaab’s leadership, operational capacity, and territorial control.

Strikes inside Jilib, long regarded as one of Al-Shabaab’s most fortified hubs, signal growing pressure on the group and reflect improved intelligence coordination and rapid-strike capabilities by Somali forces.

The defense ministry said follow-up operations were continuing to prevent the militants from regrouping, adding that the offensive underscores the government’s strategy of maintaining constant pressure on Al-Shabaab across its remaining strongholds.

Somalia has stepped up joint ground and air operations in recent months as it seeks to weaken the group’s ability to mount attacks and accelerate efforts to stabilize reclaimed areas.
