SNA reclaims former AMISOM base as fighting intensifies in Lower Shabelle
The Somali National Army has re-occupied a military base which had been vacated by AMISOM soldiers after a sustained clash with Alshabab for the past two days in Lower Shabelle.
In one incident Thursday night, Alshabab fighters launched a surprise attack on government position in Bulo Marer where they allegedly killed unknown numbers of soldiers, but SNA managed to repel the attack according to sources.
On their part, government forces retaliated on Alshabab positions in Golweyn, another important location in Lower Shabelle, and claimed to have killed 32 Alshabab fighters. But Goobjoog couldn’t independently verify this number.
Col. Hassan Jami’ee, commander of SNA unit that conducted the operation told the media that they occupied a former AMISOM base in the process.
Somalia security forces have upped their activities for the past week and a great deal of military movements could be seen in almost every location in the government controlled areas.
