SNA Steps Up Offensive Against Al-Shabaab in Middle Shabelle

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Somali National Army (SNA) has launched a renewed offensive against Al-Shabaab in Middle Shabelle, pushing into areas around Xawaadley in what officials describe as one of the region’s toughest operations in recent months.

Military sources say airstrikes have already hit militant positions, helping government forces advance into territory previously held by the group. Commanders on the ground report that Al-Shabaab fighters fled several locations as Somali troops, supported by local community forces, increased pressure through coordinated attacks.

Hirshabelle authorities said they are committed to reclaiming districts that have been under militant control, promising sustained efforts to stabilise the region and restore civilian access to services.

The latest push reflects a broader SNA strategy aimed at disrupting Al-Shabaab’s operational networks in Middle Shabelle.

Officials say the intensity of the campaign marks a significant escalation in the fight against the insurgents.
