GOOBJOOG NEWS | MAHADAAY: The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has delivered 30 trucks of humanitarian aid to the people affected by the floods in Mahadaay district, Middle Shabelle region.
Several residents in the region were displaced after the Shabelle River broke its banks, causing massive flooding that also swept away property and destroyed crucial infrastructure such as electricity and roads.
SoDMA also provided boats that can be used to rescue people trapped in some areas where the vehicles cannot reach due to the floods. The boat is equipped with life jackets and ropes.
SoDMA deputy commissioner, Dr. Ahmed Abdi Adan, said that the agency is working closely with the local authorities and the humanitarian partners to coordinate the response and to assess the needs of the affected population.
He thanked the donors and the international community for their support and urged them to continue their assistance as the situation remains critical.
