SoDMA distributes humaitarian aid to flood victims in Southwest state

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has distributed relief food items to families living in areas affected by flooding caused by the Elnino rains in the Southwest state.

The 400 families comprising of poor people, women and vulnerable children were selected from the districts and camps at the outskirts of Baidoa, which were heavily affected by heavy rains and floods in the past month, resulting in displacements.

Baidoa District Deputy Commissioner for Social Affairs Abdullahi Ibrahim urged other humanitarian agencies and donors to support the flood victims who are still in need of food, water, shelter, and health services.

SoDMA’s Rapid response and coordination advisor Mukhtar Sheikh Hussein said the agency is committed to providing assistance to those affected by natural disasters and climate change, and that they are working closely with other partners to respond to the humanitarian needs of the people.

He further appealed to the public to take precautionary measures and follow the weather forecasts to avoid further losses and damages caused by floods.
