SoDMA Warns of Heavy Rainfall, Flooding in Parts of Somalia
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has issued warnings of heavy rainfall to be experienced in various regions of the country over the next seven days.
The agency further cautioned the Somali people to exercise caution and heed warnings issued by government agencies regarding possible flooding.
“Over the next seven days, the last week of November, and the first week of December, the autumn season shows that there will be heavy rains in some parts of the country,” a press release from the agency reads.
Adding, “The amount of rain that will be received according to the forecast is between 30 and 100 (mm).”
SoDMA specifically pointed out that Bari, Nugal, Sool, Sanaag, Togdheer, Bay, Lower Jubba, Middle Jubba and Banadir regions, and they will experience heavy downpour of between 50 to 100 mm.
It further warns that some districts in the regions are likely to experience floods and flash floods.
“Also districts in the regions of Mudug, North West, Lower Shabelle, Middle Shabelle and Gedo are predicted to receive rains of between 30 and 60 (mm), which are likely to cause flooding,” the statement adds.
SoDMA also added that the heavy rains may cause power loss, calling on the public to be vigilant.
“If the rains that are expected this week fall as the forecast says, they could cause loss of life and property,” the statement concluded.
Somalia is currently facing a serious humanitarian situation, as a result of torrential rains and heavy floods that have hit the country.
