Soldier arrested for killing Somali minister
Three suspects have been detained in connection with the killing of a minister near the presidential palace, Somali military court said.
The military court chairman, Hassan Ali Shuute confirmed the arrests as an investigation continued into the circumstances around the shooting.
“Immediately the incident happened, we put three suspects behind the bars and we launched investigation into the case,” said Shoute.
Shoute said the three suspects were bodyguards for Somalia’s Auditor General Nur Farah shot dead the public works and reconstruction minister, Abbas Abdullahi.
Abbas who spent a large part of his life at a camp in Kenya, was killed on Wednesday evening after Auditor General’s bodyguards opened on his car following a suspicious sparked after The car which Abbas was traveling in, trailed the car carrying the auditor general.
The late minister had been the youngest in Somalia’s new Cabinet.
President Mohamed Farmaajo fired Dr. Farah Friday following an order to step aside for investigations by the cabinet which the latter dismissed.
