Soldiers were sent to disrupt no confidence motion meeting against Gaas-Puntland MP
Puntland soldiers who took control of the state assembly Sunday morning were under instructions to disrupt MPs who were planning a no confidence motion against president Abdiweli Ali Gaas, sources have intimated to Goobjoog News.
A lawmaker who declined to be named because of the sensitivity of the matter told Goobjoog News the presence of the soldiers at parliament building was disguised as laments for salary delays but the real intention was to disrupt their meeting.
The MP said lawmakers were dissatisfied by the way Puntland leader Abdiweli Ali Gaas was dealing with the drought situation noting, ‘the leader makes many foreign travels at the expense of people who are starving’.
The soldiers have since left the building after an elder Islan Isse Islah intervened.
There were about 50 MPs in the building but no formal sessions were ongoing.
