GOOBJOOG NEWS|NAIROBI: Somalia’s ambassador to Kenya, Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, has condemned the actions of youths who were filmed trampling on Kenyan flags during a CAF Confederation Cup preliminary match in Nairobi.

The incident took place at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday, during the first-leg clash between Kenya Police FC and Somalia’s Mogadishu City Club, where the home side won 3–1.

Addressing the matter in Nairobi on Wednesday, Ambassador Jabril described the acts as “regrettable” and confirmed that investigations are underway. “We regret and firmly condemn the actions of a few individuals whose behaviour has overshadowed the remarkable performances of both teams,” he said.

“Such incidents do not reflect the values of respect, friendship, and shared sovereignty that guide the relationship between the two countries.”

The footage, widely circulated on social media, has triggered outrage among Kenyans who called on authorities to act, saying the actions disrespected both the flag and the nation.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen also weighed in, warning that desecrating national symbols is punishable under the law. He cited the National Flag, Emblems and Names Act, which regulates the use and protection of Kenya’s national symbols.

“Many people don’t know that there is a law governing these matters. I urge the Inspector General of Police to ensure the law takes its course,” Murkomen said while speaking in Wajir during the 45th Jukwaa la Usalama forum.
