GOOBJOOG NEWS | BEIJING: Somalia’s Ambassador to China, Hodan Osman Abdi, has called for a more robust United Nations (UN) role in tackling global crises, highlighting the need for stronger multilateral cooperation at an international summit in Beijing.

The conference, hosted by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, brought together high-ranking officials, UN representatives, and policy experts to discuss global governance and security challenges.

China’s Deputy Foreign Minister Miao Deyu and UN Deputy Secretary-General Guy Ryder led the discussions, which focused on the UN’s role in mitigating geopolitical tensions, economic instability, and climate-related emergencies.

Speaking at the forum, Ambassador Hodan Osman Abdi reiterated Somalia’s commitment to multilateralism, emphasizing that effective global collaboration is essential for addressing security threats, economic development, and humanitarian crises.

She called for a more proactive UN presence, particularly in fragile and post-conflict regions, to support peace and sustainable growth.

“International cooperation based on the principles upheld by the UN is crucial for tackling today’s challenges,” Abdi stated, reaffirming Somalia’s role in strengthening diplomatic relations and contributing to global stability.

The summit comes as China seeks to reinforce its engagement with the UN at a time of growing global uncertainty, with nations pushing for greater international coordination to address pressing global issues.
