Somali Army and Local Forces Recapture Key Al-Shabaab Stronghold in Hiiraan Region
GOOBJOOG NEWS | BELEDWEYNE:The Somali National Army (SNA), backed by local forces, has liberated the Jicibow area in the Hiiraan region following intense fighting with the Al-Shabaab militant group.
The capture of Jicibow is a significant blow to the group, as the area served as a key strategic stronghold and a major crossing point between the western and eastern parts of the Hiiraan region.
According to military sources, the SNA pushed Al-Shabaab fighters from their hideouts along the riverbanks to regain control over movement in the region. The sources added that during the operation, the national army inflicted heavy casualties on the militants, marking a major victory.
Over the past four days, the Somali National Army, with support from local residents, has been conducting extensive anti-Al-Shabaab operations in eastern Hiiraan, particularly targeting areas between the towns of Halgan and Buula Burte.
Additionally, the SNA has recaptured several other key areas, including Beero Yabaal, Bur Abooto, Eega Galmaay, Jidcilaan, and Cadow Gureey, all within the Hiiraan region.
