Somali Army Captures Key Villages from Al Shabaab in Lower Shabelle

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Somali National Army has seized several villages from Al-Shabaab in the Lower Shabelle region, part of a broader push to weaken the Islamist group’s grip on southern Somalia.
The operation was led by the 19th Gorgor Commando Brigade, which secured Maalinka, Baladul Amiin, Omar Beere and Balow after what officials described as a swift advance.
Government forces said they had removed landmines and improvised explosive devices planted by the militants to allow civilians to move freely. Local residents reported welcoming the troops after years of al Shabaab control and extortion.
The latest gains are part of a sustained military campaign backed by international partners through air strikes and training.
Somali officials said the aim is not only to drive al Shabaab out of territory but also to hold the ground and restore local governance and services.
