Somali Army Chief Hails Troops as Pillars of National Defense During Dhusamareb Visit

GOOBJOOG NEWS | DHUSAMAREB: The Somali National Army Ground Forces commander Major General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, has described the country’s armed forces as the “backbone of Somalia’s sovereignty,” during an official visit to the 21st Division headquarters in Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug State.
The visit, part of an ongoing field assessment mission, comes amid intensified military operations against al-Shabaab insurgents across central Somalia. General Sahal was received with full military honors and welcomed by Division Commander Colonel Mohamed Dhagaweyne and other senior officers.
Touring the facilities and holding extensive discussions with frontline commanders, General Sahal praised the 21st Division for its recent successes in dislodging extremist militants from strategic areas.
“Our forces are not only warriors on the battlefield, they are the very guardians of our republic,” he said. “Their courage and discipline are the reason Somalia continues to reclaim its land, its dignity, and its future.”
The commander highlighted the role of the national army as a unifying force, critical to safeguarding Somalia’s territorial integrity and restoring stability in conflict-affected regions.
“Every inch of ground retaken from the Al-Shabaab militants is a step toward peace, and every soldier standing firm is a testament to our resilience as a people,” he added.
In a separate but related development, Somalia’s Minister of Health and Social Affairs, Dr. Ali Haji Adam, handed over a consignment of medical supplies to the SNA and local community fighters engaged in operations in the Hiraan region.
The aid, received by MP Mohamed Abduqadir, aims to support the health needs of troops and volunteer units risking their lives in the nation’s defense.
Dr. Adam reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining the morale and welfare of its security forces, noting that medical support is essential for maintaining operational momentum. “Victory on the battlefield must be matched by care behind the lines,” he said.
The twin gestures, military leadership engagement and health sector support, reflect Somalia’s multi-pronged strategy to stabilize volatile regions while strengthening the institutions tasked with defending its future.
