Somali Army Clears Militant Bases in Middle Shabelle, Secures Key Routes
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Somali National Army (SNA) has said it dismantled militant hideouts and secured civilian routes during a planned operation in Middle Shabelle, tightening government control in parts of Rage-Eelle district.
Troops from the 10th Division and the elite Gorgor commandos targeted positions in Daba-Gaab and Habal-Dub, about 20 kilometres west of Rage-Eelle. Military officials said the offensive disrupted armed cells and reduced their ability to stage attacks in the area.
Commanders reported that follow-up patrols and mine clearance operations were conducted to make roads safe for residents, traders and transport vehicles. Routes frequently used by civilians were inspected and cleared, allowing movement to resume under army protection.
The operation strengthens security along a strategic corridor linking rural communities to larger towns in Middle Shabelle, a region that has faced persistent threats from al Shabaab.
Authorities say continued pressure on militant networks is intended to stabilise liberated areas, restore normal life for residents and reinforce the government’s broader security push across central and southern Somalia.
