Somali Army Commander Visits Frontlines After Gains Against Al-Shabaab

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s ground forces commander, General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, visited frontline troops in Middle Shabelle on Friday, following recent gains against Al-Shabaab militants.

The general toured areas including Masaajid Ali Gadud, where Somali National Army (SNA) and allied local fighters have been carrying out operations to reclaim territory from the group.

His visit comes days after the military announced a series of advances in the region, with several key areas seized from Al-Shabaab control.

General Sahal praised the troops for their bravery and urged them to continue the offensive until militants are fully cleared from the country.

“These victories show we are capable of defeating the enemy,” he said. “We must continue fighting until all Somali territories are liberated.”

The Somali government has intensified its military campaign in central regions in recent months, aiming to weaken the group’s strongholds and restore state authority in rural areas.

Military officials say the operations will continue as part of wider efforts to secure the country and bring lasting peace.
