Somali Army Conducts Operation Targeting Militants in Middle Shabelle
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Units of the Somali National Army conducted planned operations targeting militant hideouts in the Middle Shabelle region.
According to Military officials, the operation was carried out by the 171st Battalion of the 17th Brigade under the elite Gorgor Commandos and focused on areas south of Masaale where militants were believed to be operating.
The mission was led by battalion commander Abdullahi Mustafa Ali, who said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to dismantle extremist networks in the region.
Ali said the security forces are continuing operations aimed at clearing areas used by militants as hideouts and preventing them from regrouping.
He added that the military would maintain pressure on the armed groups until they are fully removed from locations where they are believed to be taking refuge.
The federal government of Somalia has intensified security operations across several regions as part of a broader campaign to weaken militant networks and improve stability in rural areas.
