Somali Army, IMCTC Step up Counter-Terrorism Cooperation after High-Level Talks

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s army chief, Gen. Odowaa Yusuf Rageh, and Gen. Abdirahman Mohamed Tuuryare, the country’s envoy to the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC), have agreed to expand cooperation in fighting extremist groups and strengthening the army’s role in global security efforts.

The defence ministry said the talks produced commitments to enhance intelligence sharing, improve training opportunities for Somali forces, and deepen collaboration with international partners in tackling extremist financing networks.

Officials described the outcome as a step toward building a more professional and better-equipped Somali army, able to safeguard stability at home while contributing to regional counter-terrorism initiatives.

The move forms part of Somalia’s broader security strategy to defeat Al Shabaab and other militant groups, while positioning the country as an active partner in global peace and stability.
