Somali Army Prepares Major Offensive Against Militants

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s national army will soon launch a large-scale offensive to drive militant groups from key areas, the Ministry of Defence has said, signaling a renewed push to secure the country.

Ministry spokesman Sheikh Abuukar Mohamed stated that the armed forces were on high alert and preparing operations in the Lower Shabelle, Middle Shabelle and Galguduud regions.

“In the coming days, the Somali people will hear news that will bring them joy – that the enemy terrorists will be removed from many important areas and districts,” he said.

The ministry accused the groups of killing civilians and looting public property. It urged residents in targeted regions to support the military campaign, which aims to eliminate the last major militant strongholds.

The announcement marks the latest phase in government efforts to improve security after years of conflict.
