Somali Army Repels Al-Shabaab Attack in Middle Shabelle, Inflicts Heavy Losses

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Somali National Army (SNA) successfully repelled an attack by Al-Shabaab militants on Thursday morning, forcing them to retreat after intense clashes in multiple villages across Middle Shabelle region.
According to a statement from Somalia’s Defense Ministry, SNA forces engaged the militants in Ciid Ciidka, Daaru Nicma, Ali Fooldheere, and Al Kawthar villages, inflicting heavy casualties.
“The Somali National Army has achieved a significant victory against Al-Shabaab terrorists during planned operations in Ceel Cali Axmed, Middle Shabelle. The militants suffered a heavy defeat, and our forces are actively pursuing the remaining fighters to bring them to justice. Somalia will never waver in its fight against terrorism,” the ministry stated on its official X (formerly Twitter) account.
The attack comes as Somali forces intensify military operations against Al-Shabaab in central and southern regions, with the backing of African Union troops and international allies.
The government has been conducting large-scale offensives aimed at reclaiming key territories and securing vital supply routes.
Middle Shabelle remains a critical battleground due to its strategic location and proximity to the capital, Mogadishu. The Somali government has reaffirmed its commitment to continuing operations until Al-Shabaab is fully dismantled.
This latest victory underscores the SNA’s growing capabilities and the government’s resolve to eradicate terrorist threats in Somalia.
