Somali Army Says 21 Al-Shabaab Fighters Killed in Bay Region Clash
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somali National Army forces repelled an attack by Al-Shabaab in the Daynuunay area of Bay region, killing at least 21 fighters and wounding more than 10 others, the defence ministry said.
In a statement, the Ministry of Defence said militants launched a surprise assault on army positions but were met with strong resistance from government troops.
The army has since secured full control of Daynuunay, a strategic نقطة along the route linking Baidoa and Mogadishu.
Military officials said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to weaken the group’s presence in the region and protect key supply routes.
Further details on the incident will be released in due course, the ministry added.
