Somali Cabinet Approves Appointment of General Asad Osman as new Police Commissioner
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Federal Government of Somalia’s Council of Ministers Thursday approved the appointment of General Asad Osman Abdullahi as the country’s new police commissioner, replacing Major General Sulub Ahmed Firin.
The appointment follows the promotion of Major General Sulub Ahmed Firin who has was subsequently named as the new Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.
General Abdullahi previously served as the Puntland Security Force (PSF) Commander from 2007 to 2018.
Firin will be expected to transfer his expertise in the security sector to the Transport and Civil Aviation ministry and address challenges facing the sector ranging from safety regulations and operational inefficiencies.
The appointment is part of Somalia’s efforts to modernize its transport and aviation infrastructure, which is critical to national recovery and growth.
