Somali Cabinet Hails Army, Locals for Foiling Terror Threat in Beled-Hawo

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Cabinet has praised the national army and residents of Beled-Hawo for preventing potential violence in the volatile Gedo region, calling it a critical moment in the government’s broader fight against Al-Shabaab and efforts to stabilize the south.
In a statement following its weekly session on Thursday, the Cabinet commended the Somali National Army (SNA) for acting with “professionalism and restraint” to protect civilians during a recent security alert in the border town.
Officials also lauded local communities for standing by government forces and supporting the restoration of public services.
“The unity between our security forces and the people is key to peace in Gedo and beyond,” the statement read.
The Cabinet reiterated its resolve to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s influence and warned that any actors undermining peace efforts would be treated as obstacles to Somalia’s national recovery.
The incident in Beled-Hawo comes amid a renewed push by federal forces to secure key towns in southern Somalia and re-establish state institutions in areas long affected by militant activity.
