Somali Cabinet Implements Stringent Security Directives to Combat Terrorism

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Federal Republic of Somalia’s Cabinet on Thursday issued a series of stringent security directives aimed at strengthening the nation’s fight against terrorism and ensuring long-term stability.
The directives, announced during the Cabinet’s weekly meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Prime Minister Saleh Ahmed Jama, come as the Somali National Army (SNA) intensifies operations against Al-Shabaab militants, who continue to pose a severe threat to national security.
During the meeting, the Council of Ministers commended the bravery and sacrifices of the Somali Armed Forces and civilian forces engaged in the fight against Al-Shabaab. The Cabinet outlined several critical measures to enhance security and curb activities that undermine national stability.
In their resolution, the ministers acknowledged recent progress in anti-terrorism operations and reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to supporting the armed forces in their mission to eradicate terrorism.
Additionally, the Council issued a stern warning to Somali citizens, emphasizing that the misuse or misrepresentation of laws and regulations—including via social media and other platforms—is strictly prohibited. Individuals found guilty of such offenses will face legal consequences, including prosecution and severe penalties under the law.
Furthermore, the Council stated that any citizen who allows their home, business premises, or vehicles to be used for criminal activities that threaten national security will be considered an accomplice to terrorism. Such individuals will face severe punishment, including asset confiscation and nationalization, as per Somalia’s anti-terrorism laws.
Heightened Security Measures
The Somali National Army urged citizens residing in areas where anti-terrorism operations are ongoing to avoid locations where Al-Shabaab militants are active. The SNA announced plans to escalate both air and ground operations to eliminate the terrorist threat while prioritizing civilian safety.
In a move to bolster security at Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu, the Council announced a ban on weapons and combat vehicles within the airport’s perimeter. Security agencies will provide further details on the implementation of this measure in the coming days.
The Council of Ministers reaffirmed the government’s commitment to restoring peace and stability across Somalia. These new directives highlight the administration’s determination to hold individuals accountable for actions that compromise national security while ensuring civilian protection amid ongoing conflicts.
Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Prime Minister Saleh Ahmed Jama emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in combating terrorism.
“The security of our nation is a shared responsibility. We must all play our part in ensuring that terrorists have no place to hide and that those who support them face the full force of the law,” he stated.
These decisive measures come at a crucial time as Somalia continues to make significant strides in its fight against Al-Shabaab. The government’s proactive approach aims to dismantle terrorist networks, safeguard civilians, and create a secure environment conducive to sustainable development.
