GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi has hailed the graduation of Major Mohamed Muse Mohamed from the United Kingdom’s Royal Military Academy Sandhurst as a significant step toward strengthening the professionalism and global standards of the Somali National Army (SNA).

Major Mohamed Muse is the first Somali officer in four decades to complete the elite British training programme, a milestone the minister said reflects the SNA’s growing integration with international military institutions and Somalia’s commitment to modern defence reforms.

“The success of Major Mohamed Muse demonstrates the renewed spirit, discipline, and capability within our armed forces,” Minister Fiqi said during a ceremony in Mogadishu attended by British Ambassador Charles King, UK Defence Attaché Captain James Edwards, and senior Somali military officials.

Fiqi commended the United Kingdom for its ongoing partnership with Somalia in areas of security cooperation, officer training, and institutional capacity building, saying such collaborations are vital to the country’s long-term stability and counter-terrorism efforts.

“This achievement is not only personal but national—it inspires the next generation of Somali officers to serve with excellence and pride,” he added.
