Somali Deputy PM holds talks with Turkish Foreign Minister at OIC Summit
GOOBJOOG NEWS | BANJUL: Federal Republic of Somalia Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama Friday held talks with Turkish Minister Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan in the Gambian capital Banjul at the sidelines of the15th summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The two deliberated further on methods of strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation between Turkey and Somalia.
Turkey and Somalia have intensified their relationship which has seen the two states sign agreements on defense, economic cooperation, as well as oil and gas cooperation.
Following the signing of a defense and economic agreement between Somalia and Turkey in February of this year, a Turkish Navy vessel, the TCG Kınalıada F514, arrived at the Port of Mogadishu last week.
Turkey has made significant investments in Somalia, particularly in education, infrastructure, health, and has provided extensive humanitarian aid.
In the summit, which is held under the theme, “enhancing unity and solidarity through dialogue on sustainable development”, participants from 57 Islamic nations will discuss various issues and challenges facing the Islamic world, including the issue of Palestine and the ongoing Israeli genocidal war on Gaza.
Additionally, three documents, including the draft of the Palestinian resolution, the draft of the Banjul statement and the draft of the final document of the summit meeting will be presented to the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers and then the summit for approval.
