Somali Disaster Agency, UN Officials Tackle Aid Challenges Amid Funding Cuts

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) met with UN officials in Mogadishu Tuesday to address pressing humanitarian challenges, particularly in light of recent US funding cuts.
During discussions with George Conway, the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Humanitarian Coordinator, officials examined the impact of the cuts on ongoing aid efforts.
The meeting also focused on Somalia’s drought response, emphasizing the need for urgent intervention in the hardest-hit areas.
With humanitarian needs mounting, participants stressed the importance of stronger coordination among aid partners under SoDMA’s leadership to maximize efficiency. The Somali government also called for a review of funding distribution mechanisms to ensure resources are better aligned with the evolving crisis.
