Somali Envoy Begins Visit to DR Congo to Strengthen Regional Ties, Support Diaspora

GOOBJOOG NEWS | KINSHASA: Somalia’s Ambassador to Tanzania and the East African Community (EAC), Ilyas Ali Hassan is in Kinshasa for a working visit aimed at deepening Somalia’s diplomatic engagement and supporting its citizens in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Ambassador Ilyas, who also serves as Somalia’s non-resident envoy to five African countries including the DRC, is leading a high-level delegation for a multi-day visit.
He was received at N’djili International Airport by senior DRC Foreign Ministry officials and members of the Somali community living in Kinshasa.
Speaking after his arrival, Ambassador Ilyas thanked the Congolese authorities and the Somali diaspora for their warm welcome. He said the visit would focus on assessing the welfare of Somali nationals in the DRC and improving access to essential consular and community services.
The trip underscores Somalia’s growing diplomatic footprint in the Great Lakes region and its efforts to strengthen bilateral and regional cooperation within the framework of the East African Community.
