Somali forces arrest nab 10 Al-Shabaab suspects outside Mogadishu
At least five Al-Shabaab suspects were captured in a security operation by Somali forces supported by AU troops in K-50 locality in the outskirt of the capital Mogadishu.
Miltary officials told reporters that the Somali forces had targeted suspects during the operation conducted on Tuesday night.
“The forces arrested ten Al-Shabaab suspect, it was very successful operation,” a military officer said.
The move comes barely a day after over ten combatants including SNA soldiers and Al-Shabaab fighters killed in Al-Shabaab attack on military bases housing government and African Union troops in the areas.
Despite the well organised offensives by Somali forces backed AU troops, the group still controls large swath of rural areas in south and central Somalia.
Al-Shabaab which wants to topple internationally recognised Somali government has carried out several deadly attacks in Somalia’s main towns.
The suicide bomber has detonated an explosives-laden truck near the gate of Somalia’s presidential palace and SYL Hotel which is frequented by government officials and business executives.
The hotel had twice come under similar attacks in recent months with the latest being in February.
The group was driven from Mogadishu in 2011 but still remains a potent threat and frequently carries out attacks in the city.
