Somali Forces Foil Bomb Plot in Mogadishu, Seize Explosives

Storyline:Security, War on Al-Shabaab

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU:  Security forces have foiled a suspected bomb plot in Mogadishu after intercepting a motorbike loaded with explosives in a late-night operation.

The operation, carried out in the Dayniile area, followed intelligence shared in part by local residents, underscoring cooperation between the public and security agencies.

Security officials said officers recovered at least five mortar shells concealed in sacks on the motorbike, which they believe was intended for an attack targeting civilians.

The suspect attempted to detonate the explosives after realising he was about to be apprehended, but security forces prevented the blast and secured the materials.

The security officials described the seizure as a significant disruption of a planned attack aimed at undermining security in the capital.

Security commanders praised residents for providing timely information and said public vigilance remains critical in countering threats from groups such as Al-Shabaab.

The incident comes as Somalia steps up security operations in Mogadishu and surrounding areas amid ongoing efforts to prevent attacks and maintain stability.
