Somali Forces Intensify Operations as Joint Raids Weaken Al-Shabaab Cells
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somali security forces have stepped up coordinated operations across multiple regions, dealing fresh blows to Al-Shabaab as the government accelerates its campaign to restore stability and protect civilians.
Macawisley community defence units in Xarardheere district launched a targeted overnight raid on the militant group’s hideout in Dumaaye village, Mudug region, killing six fighters and seizing weapons and equipment the group had been using to intimidate residents, officials said.
In a parallel operation, the Somali National Army (SNA) disrupted a planned suicide attack near Dabagalo, about 35 kilometres north-west of Xarardheere. The army said swift action prevented an attempted assault aimed at undermining security gains in the area.
Further west, government troops conducted another operation along the Garasweyne–Moragabey corridor in Bakool region, eliminating five militants — among them key local commanders — and recovering rifles and military materiel.
The militants neutralised in Bakool were identified as Ibrahim Aliow Mohamed Macalin, Adam Mohamed Same and Abdullahi Adan Dhere.
The Ministry of Defence hailed the latest operations as evidence of growing coordination between the SNA and community forces, reaffirming the government’s commitment to sustained offensive pressure until Al-Shabaab’s remaining networks are dismantled and Somalis can live in lasting peace.
