Somali Forces Kill 22 Al Shabaab Fighters in Lower Shabelle Operation
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Somali National Army (SNA), backed by international partners, have killed 22 Al-Shabaab fighters in a military operation in the Lower Shabelle region, the defence ministry said.
The operation, carried out over the past 72 hours, involved both ground forces and air strikes in the Buulo Cabdalla area between Mubaarak and Ugunji.
The defense ministry said those killed included a senior commander identified as Cabdiraxmaan Jeeri, accused of orchestrating attacks against civilians.
The ministry said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to intensify pressure on the Islamist militant group and improve security.
It also thanked international partners for their continued support in joint operations.
Somalia has in recent months stepped up military offensives against Al-Shabaab, seeking to weaken the group’s presence in central and southern regions.
