Danab Forces Eliminate Dozens of al-Shabaab Militants in Southern Somalia

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s elite Danab Commandos have killed more than 37 al-Shabaab militants, including senior operatives, in a decisive operation in the Lower Jubba region, in what officials described as a major step forward in the government’s ongoing campaign to restore peace and stability.

The pre-planned assault, conducted with support from international partners, targeted the village of Maqoogaha, located about 13 kilometers west of Buulo Xaaji. According to the Ministry of Defence, the militants were using the location as a strategic base.

“This operation demonstrates the strength and growing capability of our armed forces,” the Ministry said in a statement. “Our brave Danab Commandos, in coordination with international allies, successfully dismantled a key terrorist hub.”

Authorities confirmed that several high-ranking members of the militant group were among the dead. Their identities will be released once confirmed through intelligence channels.

The government hailed the success as part of a broader national offensive aimed at weakening al-Shabaab’s hold over rural areas, cutting off its operational networks, and protecting Somali citizens from extremist violence.

“This is a clear message: Somalia is taking control of its future,” the statement added. “We will not rest until every region is free from the grip of terrorism.”

Officials praised the discipline and courage of the Danab units and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to pursuing al-Shabaab across the country.

The operation follows a series of coordinated offensives launched under President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s renewed push to strengthen security institutions and reclaim territory from insurgent groups.
