Somali Forces Foil Al-Shabaab Attack in Fierce Clash

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somali government forces and local community fighters launched a joint assault on Al-Shabaab militants near Adan Yabaal in the Middle Shabelle region on Monday evening, killing scores of insurgents and thwarting a planned terrorist attack, military officials said.
The operation, timed at sunset, targeted militants who had been regrouping on the outskirts of the town. A fierce firefight ensued, resulting in heavy casualties among the extremist ranks.
Commanders told journalists that troops swiftly overran militant positions, leaving several bodies at the scene as security teams continued their assessments.
“This operation achieved its objectives as planned,” one senior officer said, adding that the forces had dismantled a potential threat before it could materialize.
The offensive marks the latest gain in Somalia’s intensified campaign to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s network and restore security across the country.
